Dr. Peterson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware, then went on to earn his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. He furthered his medical training by completing a general surgery internship and orthopaedic residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Dr. Peterson is certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and has been in private practice since 1995.

Mark Peterson is the third generation of orthopaedic surgeons from the Washington, D.C., area. His grandfather, Leonard, was Chief of Orthopaedics at Walter Reed during World War II and pioneered hip replacement surgery. His father, Kent, practiced for over 35 years, many of those years with Leonard, and is now retired and living in Florida. Mark is married with 4 children, who are all actively involved in school sports and activities, and much of his free time is spent watching them play.
